Brief Update

Nero quick sketch

It's nearly time for Story 3 in this season of SALMON & DUSK, but only nearly. There's about 9,000 words written and probably another 5,000 to go, which I had hoped to knock out last week. Instead, I've been back working on the new draft of HOW TO DISAPPEAR COMPLETELY - a draft I would really love you all to see sometime this year.

I'm off to Thailand for three weeks' work at the end of this week and it's unlikely I'll have time to write, record and edit before then. But, fear not! I'm hoping to be able to podcast from my hotel room, so we'll still see Story 3 by the end of the month. (All things being well.)

What can I tell you about the next story? Well, it's a Nero story, as he really hasn't had much time in the spotlight yet. Nero does someone a good turn and then suffers greatly for it. For now, that's all you're getting. As usually, it'll have drama, surprises and, hopefully, a few giggles. No explosions though, although I could always write one in.

Thanks again for all your support - it's been great to hear how much people have enjoyed the first stories.

SALMON AND DUSK Bonus Story: MERRY CHRISTMAS, CARTWRIGHT

Xmas Chapter Picture

A special seasonal one-off adventure for Salmon & Dusk

Theo Cartwright is homesick in London, hoping Kilbey will make more of an effort for Christmas this year. Knowing Kilbey, she might be erring on the side of optimism. What is certain is that things will get a lot worse for Theo before they get better.

A standalone story, Merry Christmas, Cartwright is intended to be a somewhat sweet, chucklesome companion for the Christmas Eve journey home - wherever you may be.

AFTER DUSK goes behind the scenes of the SALMON & DUSK Christmas Special. Also, you can hear how high-pitched, whiny and sweary I get when I make a mistake recording.

A SALMON & DUSK Christmas Card

A Salmon & Dusk Xmas Card

Victor Wycoco has done it again - this time it's a special card to accompany the SALMON & DUSK Christmas Special. Click on the picture or here to get yourself a copy to send to friends and family (of excellent taste.) What better way to spread the word about the new SALMON & DUSK series? (And to give said friends and family a very lovely picture.)

Of the picture, Victor (who gave up what was left of his pre-Christmas free time to draw it) says:

I wanted to do a sweet scene with the couple - kind of what Theo wanted the night to be. Kilbey still can't understand what is with all the sentiment. He agreed to wear reindeer ears nonetheless.

Personally, it's my absolute favourite thing. (Since the last picture Victor sent me, at least.)

BRITISH SEA POWER - Boy Vertiginous

A piece of music I've borrowed a little from for the Xmas story. Taken from the "Man of Aran" soundtrack by British Sea Power. Fantastic stuff, well worth checking out, as is "No Man is an Archipelago".

In addition, here's Theo's theme, as featured in both this podcast and "Sideways." Available free from Jamendo.

A Christmas Bonus for SALMON & DUSK

Cartwright's Christmas crop

While Out of the Picture will continue come Boxing Day, you (my lovely, loyal listeners) can expect an extra Salmon & Dusk sized treat in your stocking this year.

As I've had time on my hands this week, I thought it might be fun to sit down and knock out a Christmas special, as long as I could think of an idea. I have to say, I'm very happy with the result. World-class artist Victor Wycoco has even been good enough to take time from a frantic festive schedule to indulge us with a special piece of Christmas artwork - which will be unveiled in full as the special episode goes live.

But what of the episode itself?

Merry Christmas, Cartwright finds Theo Cartwright homesick in London, hoping Kilbey will make more of an effort for Christmas this year.

SALMON AND DUSK: OUT OF THE PICTURE (CHAPTER TWO)

OotP Chapter 2 pic

One of Joe's paintings has taken on a life of its own and only Salmon and Dusk seem able to help.

But can Joe trust them? Or should he trust his own painting and its audacious scheme?
